GodSpeak: Life|Love – April 13-18

Life|Love
1 John 2:1-6

As Christians, we claim to know Jesus and seek to make him known.  In our culture, knowledge is facts and figures, ideas and ideals.  To know Jesus is to follow him, to obey the word, to live the commandments.  Otherwise… we lie.
Daily Prayer:  Lord Jesus, make the love of God to be perfected in my life by following your example.  Amen.

Monday, April 13
Read 1 John 2:1-6.  Focus on verse 1.  What is the purpose of John’s letter?  If Jesus already died for those sins, why is it necessary for John to write this letter?  In what ways do we encourage each other not to sin?  For more, see John 8:1-11.

Tuesday, April 14
Read 1 John 2:1-6.  Focus on verse 2.  What is a sacrifice of atonement?  For more on atonement, see Leviticus 16.  Why is it important for John to make it clear that Jesus didn’t just die for our sins?

Wednesday, April 15
Read 1 John 2:1-6.  Focus on verse 3.  How do we know that we know Jesus?  What are the commandments of Jesus?  What does keeping the commandments of Jesus have to do with verse 1?  For more, see John 15:1-17.

Thursday, April 16
Read 1 John 2:1-6.  Focus on verse 4 What is the lie that John describes?  Is there any way of truly knowing Jesus that excludes keeping his commands?  Describe the temptation to make knowing Jesus the same as learning an idea.  For more, see Matthew 7:15-23.

Friday, April 17
Read 1 John 2:1-6.  Focus on verses 5-6 Can the love of God be perfected in us?  How?  What are some things that Jesus did that we should do also?  For more, peek ahead to 1 John 4:11-21.

Saturday, April 18
Read 1 John 2:1-6 John addresses the readers of his letter as “children.”  Take some time today to pray your way through the passage like a child.  For instance, thank Jesus for being your advocate with the Father, and pray that you might truly know him.  For more, see John 17:1-5.
